My Experience…

After graduating from Florida A&M University, I began my journey as an educator in 2003 as a preschool teacher. In 2006, I began my elementary teaching experience in a local private school and moved on to Florida A&M University Developmental Research School in 2008, where I continued work as an elementary school teacher for 4 years. In 2012, I obtained a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from Florida State University, while owning and operating my own preschool.

In 2014, I returned to the classroom as a teacher in both elementary and middle school, and transitioned into leadership as a literacy coach and assistant principal in 2015. I served as an assistant principal in public schools for 3 years, and in 2018, became the elementary school principal at Florida A&M University Developmental Research School.

While a principal at Florida A&M University Developmental Research School, I have mentored and coached teachers through the facilitation of professional learning, coaching, and relationship building. I have fostered a culture of trust and support with teachers helping to improve instruction and teacher morale. As we transitioned from the COVID-19 pandemic, I also worked to increase the percentage of certified teachers in our school to 99%.

As a principal, I implemented a new performing arts program for elementary students, providing students with enrichment in music, dance, and acting while integrating literacy benchmark expectations to improve reading comprehension. This year, I also implemented a 20 million Word Reading Initiative, where collectively, our students are slated to read 20 million words in one school year.

My Passion…

My passion has always been teaching and learning and making a difference in the lives of students and families. I believe in the power and significance of education and the positive impact that it can have on communities and the world at large. Education is about students. Education is about the future of our children. It is about expanding the minds of our young people and positioning them for success in the future. Education must no longer be about politics and protecting personal agendas. The focus has to return to providing students with the quality education they deserve through accountability, support for teachers, and effective instructional and organizational leadership.
